Castellers: intangible heritage of Catalonia

This audiovisual was realized by partner CRDI / Ajutament de Girona, to share about the Catalan tradition of Castells (human towers) that was declared by UNESCO to be amongst the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

During festivals, the Colles Castelleres (teams that build towers) attempt to build and dismantle a human tower’s structure.

The passion and social cohesion that permeate the Castellers are well highlighted in this documentary video, which was realized with interviews to several participants from different locations in Catalonia.

The documentary produced by the CRDI as part of the European project WEAVE was made by the students of the CIFOG (Cicles Formatives Girona). The documentary focuses on the Casteller phenomenon and explores its links with the city of Girona, which is why the Casteller teams most linked to the city of Girona are represented: the Marrecs de Salt (the local team), the Capgrossos from Mataró, the Sagals from Osona, the Nens del Vendrell, the Minyons from Terrassa, the Xerrics from Olot and the Xics from Granollers.
